| Abstract: | Continuous
monitoring of environmental gamma radiation at Shillong (Meghalaya) has been
carried out by the Physics laboratory, Atomic Minerals Directorate, North East
region, using Environmental Gamma Radiation instrument (IERMON) designed and
developed by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Mumbai a constituent unit of
Deptt of Atomic Energy. This study is based on the collection and analysis of
environmental gamma dose data spanning from January 2007 to August 2010.
Environmental Gamma dose equivalent of 1.72mSv per annum has been estimated with
a range of 1.37mSv to 1.96 mSv. Using quarterly moving average method, long
term trend also indicate annual trend of 1.75 mSv which is in agreement with
the estimated annual dose value. |
