Abstract: A simple and efficient method for the synthesis of 6-aryl-9-(4-hydroxy-3-ethoxyphenyl)-1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-<i>a</i>][1,8] naphthyrid­ines <b>4 </b>by the oxidation of the corresponding ethylvanillin 3-aryl-1,8-naphthyridin-2-ylhydrazones <b>3 </b>using silicagel supported ferric chloride (SiO<sub>2</sub>-FeCl<sub>3</sub>) in solvent-free conditions under microwave irradiation has been described. The products are obtained in good yields and in a state of high purity. The structural assignment of compounds <b>3</b> and<b> 4</b> were based on their elemental analyses and spectral data.
