Abstract: Claisen rearrangement of 7-propargyloxyspirochromanones in N,N-diethylaniline affords spiro[pyrano[2,3-f]chromen-2,1'-cyclo¬≠alkan]-4-ones, while 1'-alkylspiro[pyrano[2,3-f]chromen-2,4'-piperidin]-4-ones can be synthesized by Claisen rearrangement of 4-propargyloxyresaectophenones followed by cyclization using N-subsituted piperidones in ethanol-pyrrolidine. All the compounds have been tested in vitro for their antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Some of the compounds show moderate to good antibacterial activity.
