Abstract: A protocol was established for mass propagation of the valuable medicinal plant Vitex trifolia Linn.(Verbenaceae) through in vitro culture using leaf and internodal explants. The highest percentage (88%) of callus induction from internodal explants was observed on MS medium supplemented with 1.5mg/l 2, 4-D and 0.3mg/l KIN and highest percentage (95%) of shoot induction from callus was observed on MS medium supplemented with 2.0mg/l BAP and 0.3mg/l NAA. The in vitro raised shoots were successfully rooted in MS medium augmented with 0.5 mg/l IBA. The plantlets were subsequently hardened to green house conditions.
