Abstract: This study develops a low cost hardware processing unit implemented in a field-programmable-gate-array (FPGA) device and based on Chirp-z transform for real-time high-resolution frequency computation of electric signals in industrial applications. This hardware unit complies with international standards for frequency measurement in electrical systems. Effectiveness of proposed frequency-estimation unit was experimentally validated using case studies.
