| Authors: | Giri, Rabishankar Sengar, D S |

| Abstract: | Provides
an insight into the practical implementation aspects of selection and
implementation of Open Source Software (OSS) for managing the activities and
services of a library or an information centre. Identifies that a main
pre-requisite for OSS
use in libraries is for the librarian to be able to harness the potential
capabilities of its staff by motivating them effectively. Finds that OSS
is more future oriented and more easily amenable for customization and can be
an effective low-cost alternative to their proprietary counterpart. |
