| Abstract: | Transgenic plants containing Am-SOD gene
developed from embryogenic calli of Pusa Basmati 1, Taraori Basmati and, a new
plant type (NPT) super rice variety, IR 70485-15-3-2 enroute co-cultivation
with Agrobacterium tumifaciens. Am-SOD gene was housed under
transcriptional control of CaMV 35S promoter and Nos polyadenylation signal in
binary vector pCAMBIA 1301. Transformation efficiency was found to be very
good. Molecular analysis involving PCR, slot and Southern blot showed
integration of the gene at genome level in a few plants, which was further
substantiated through an array of physiological studies conducted in vitro. |
