Abstract: A one-pot synthesis of quinazolinone derivatives from the reaction of anthranilic acid and primary aromatic amines with Vilsmeier reagent (DMF/POCl3) has been carried out. The reaction occurred in a few minutes under microwave irradiation providing good yields. All the synthesized compounds have been screened for their in vitro antibacterial activity against S. aureus, S. epidermis, B. cereus, B. subtilis, Ps. aureus, Kl. pneumonia and E. coli and antifungal activity against A. niger and C. albicans. Their minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values range between 25-100 µg/mL. The screening data indicates that the compounds 3c, 3e, 3g and 3i have promising anti-bacterial activity and compounds 3b, 3c and 3h have promising antifungal activity.
