Abstract: A one-pot synthesis of quinazolinone derivatives from the reaction of anthranilic acid and primary aromatic amines with Vilsmeier reagent (DMF/POCl<sub>3</sub>) has been carried out. The reaction occurred in a few minutes under microwave irradiation providing good yields. All the synthesized compounds have been screened for their <i style="">in vitro</i> antibacterial activity against <i style="">S. aureus</i>, <i style="">S. epidermis</i>, <i style="">B. cereus</i>, <i style="">B. subtilis</i>, <i style="">Ps. aureus</i>, <i style="">Kl. pneumonia</i> and <i style="">E. coli</i> and antifungal activity against <i style="">A. niger</i> and <i style="">C. albicans</i>. Their minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values range between 25-100 µg/mL. The screening data indicates that the compounds <b style="">3c</b>, <b style="">3e</b>, <b style="">3g</b> and <b style="">3i</b> have promising anti-bacterial activity and compounds <b style="">3b, 3c</b> and <b style="">3h</b> have promising antifungal activity.
