| Abstract: | This paper presents a comparative study between wear rate and product quality in replacement decision making process for machinery component towards functional failure, using data from a real case study of cutting knife at pulp manufacturing industry.Through wear rate monitoring technique, replacement decision of cutting knife is actually decided prematurely, indicating thatcutting knife still can be used for a certain amount of time before it really needs to be replaced. Thus, by understanding mechanism of actual failure perspective of cutting knife, better replacement decision can be made through product quality monitoring technique. |
