| Abstract: | T he synthes is o f 1- [(2’ -hyd ro xy-4’ - iso p rop o xy-5 -nitrophenyl) -ethano ne] -4-(aryl)-3- thios emic a rba zo nes a e
c arried out by refluxing 4-aryl-3-thios emic arbazides and 2-hydroxy-4-isopropoxy-5-nitroac etophenone in stoichiome ric
amounts dissolved in aqueous ethanol in pres enc e of few drops of ac etic acid. All the compounds have been s creened for their
antibac terial activity against Gram positive bac teria Bacillus
subtilis Staphylococcus aureus and Gram negative bac teria Escher ichiacoliand Salmonella typhi . In the pr imary s creening, some of the compounds exhibit
appreciable activity.
The structures of the synthesized compounds 3a-h have been characterized on the basis of their element al analys is and spectral data. |
