| Abstract: | Several 3-substituted
indoles have been synthesized in good to excellent yields by conjugate addition
of indoles to ,-unsaturated enones such as chalcones, methyl
vinyl ketone and cyclohexenone in the presence of catalytic amount of
copper(II) chloride. The substitution of indoles occurred exclusively at the
3-position, and products of N-alkylation
have not been observed. |
