Abstract: A series of synthetic 3-chlorochromones and 1,5-benzo­thiazepines have been synthesized and evaluated for their antimicrobial and antifungal activity against Gram +ve and Gram -ve microorganisms. In these series the chemical transformation of chalcones to respective 3-chlorochromones and 1,5-benzothia­zepines by using DMSO/CuCl<sub>2 </sub>and 2-aminothiophenol respective­ly has been carried out. Compounds synthesized have been screened for antibacterial activity using Gentamycin and Cefixime and for antifungal activity using Ketoconazole as reference drugs.
