|Abstract:||<smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name="metricconverter"> Diethyl phthalate on treatment with ethyl acetate in sodium ethoxide gives sodium salt of ester derivative, which on neutralization in presence of sulphuric acid affords indane-1,3-dione <b style="">1</b>. Various hydrazines and carbazides on condensation with <b style="">1</b> in ethanol under reflux furnish the corresponding hydrazones and carbazones <b style="">2a-g</b>. The structures of the compounds have been established by IR and <sup>1</sup>H NMR spectral data. All the synthesized compounds have been evaluated for their anticoagulant and antimicrobial activities. Among these, compounds <b style="">2b</b> and <b style="">2c</b> have shown significant anticoagulant activity. All the compounds exhibited mild to moderate antimicrobial activities. Among these compounds <b style="">2a</b> and <b style="">2g</b> are found to have antimicrobial activities comparable to that of standard drugs used.</smarttagtype>|
