Authors: Subrahmanyam, C; Kumar, S Ratna; Reddy, G Damodar

Abstract: From the gorgonian S. suberosa Pallas collected from the
Mandapam coast, Tamil Nadu, a monohydroxy sterol mixture subergorgic acid 1, batyl alcohol 2, two pregnane derivative mixtures, thymine 3, and a new ceramide mixture in which
N-hexadecanoyl-2-amino-1,3-dihydroxyoctadec-4-ene 6 is the major isomer,
have been isolated. Compounds 1, 3,
6 and one of the pregnane mixtures exhibit antibacterial and antifungal
activities.

Title: Synthesis and antimicrobial screening of 2'-hydroxy-5'-(phenylazo)-N- (1", 3"-diketophenylamine)-3-chloroazetidin-2-ones

Authors: Halve, Anand K; Gour, Poonam; Dubey, Rakesh; Bhadauria, Deepti; Bhaskar, Bhuwan

Abstract: Some new 2'-hydroxy-5'-(phenylazo)-N- (1",3"-diketophenylamine)-3-chloroazetidin
-2-ones 2a-l have been synthesized and their
structures have been established on the basis of their elemental analysis and
spectroscopic data. Compounds 2e, j and l show significant
antibacterial and antifungal activity. 2'-hydroxy-5'(p-chlorophenylazo)-N-(1",
3"-diketo-p-chlorophenylamine)-3-chloroazetidin-2-one 2l has
been found to be a more potent antifungal agent against A. niger and C.
albicans as compared to the control drug-Fluconazole.

Authors: Das, Biswanath; Ramesh, C; Ravindranath, N; Mahender, G; Holla, Harish

Abstract: Parthenin, a compound
with potential anticancer and allelopathic properties, is reacted with various
aldoximes in the presence of ceric ammonium nitrate to form novel
spiro-2-isoxazolines.

Rapid and efficient synthesis of some biological active 2-azetidinones under microwave irradiation

Title: Rapid and efficient synthesis of some biological active 2-azetidinones under microwave irradiation

Authors: Desai, K G; Desai, K R

Abstract: An efficient and extremely fast procedure
for the synthesis of
4-aryl-3-chloro-1-[(2-benzothiazolylthio)acetamidyl]-2-azetidinone 4 by
the reaction of arylidene-[(2-benzothiazolylthio)acetamidyl] 3 with
chloroacetylchloride in DMF in the presence of catalytic amount of
triethylamine under microwave irradiation is described. A considerable increase
in the reaction rate has been observed with better yield. All the compounds
have been screened for their antifungal activity against Candida albicans
and Aspergillus niger, and
antibacterial activity against Escherchia coli, Staphylococcus
aureus and Bacills substilis. In the primary screening, some of the
compounds exhibit appreciable activity. The structures of the synthesised
compounds 4a-j have been characterized on the basis of their elemental
analysis and spectral data.
