Title: Research output of faculties of plant sciences in central universities of India: A bibliometric study

Authors: Sevukan, R; Nagarajan, M; Sharma, Jaideep

Abstract: Research output in plant sciences of the faculties in central universities of India has been analysed bibliometrically.
The study analyses a total of 348 bibliographic records of plant sciences retrieved from ISI Science Citation Index –
Extended (SCIE) for a period of 10 years from 1997 to 2006. The output of plant sciences literature has been analysed by
year, document type, authorship pattern, and collaboration pattern at different levels viz., international, national, and local.
The laws of Bradford and Lotka have also been tested. Results of the study reveal that: i) the plant sciences literature has
grown steadily during the study period except for 1997 and 2002; ii) articles play a predominant source of publications of
plant sciences literature; iii) the plant sciences research in central universities of India is fairly collaborative; and iv) the
productivity of authors fits Lotka’s distribution while scattering of journal articles does not fit into Bradford’s distribution.

Authors: Krishnan, Jayaja

Abstract: Provides an overview of the organization and management of Media Resources Collection in Media Libraries with example
of how it is organized at Media Library of the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), New Delhi. It informs
the readers how the applications and convergence of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) helps in distribution
and dissemination of knowledge resources in a converged environment. The advancements and developments in ICT have
made possible information access and retrieval much faster in present times.

Information resources on agricultural economics: A study with special reference to Kerala

Title: Information resources on agricultural economics: A study with special reference to Kerala

Authors: Nair, R. Raman

Abstract: Opines that scientific planning for agricultural development to overcome backwardness is very important for India.
Speedy and sustainable agricultural development is tied closely to effective planning which in turn rests heavily on information
available for the process. Information specifically related to this area is classified under agricultural economics. This makes
information systems on agricultural economics very crucial in the context of increasing requirements for food grains as well as
globalization. Examines the coverage of agricultural economics, nature of information on the area, and the importance of
technical and marketing information to managers, farmers and other stakeholders to take maximum advantage of the WTO
Regime. Examines in detail the resources of information units of organizations dealing with agricultural economics in the
region and the provisions for resource-sharing between them. Reveals that information resources available collectively are
sufficient, but that at individual institutions are not adequate, full or reliable. Recommends a resource sharing programme for
institutions concerned with agricultural economics.

Title: A quantitative analysis of the spices literature in India

Authors: Senthilkumaran, P.; Amudhavalli, A.

Abstract: Analyses the quantitative literature on spices for the period 1968 to 2002 with respect to Asia and India using HORT-CD
database. Identifies the distribution of spices literature by categories of spices, forms of publications, core journals, prime
authors and institutions. Reveals that India dominates research and development activities on spices in the Asian continent and
Indian Institute of Spices Research is a significant contributor whose scientists top the list of prolific authors.
