Role of consortia in preservation of e-journals

Title: Role of consortia in preservation of e-journals

Authors: Gaur, Ramesh C; Tripathi, Manorama

Abstract: The present paper
briefly describes the importance of library consortia and enlists main
consortia of the country. It mainly dwells upon the various issues related to
the preservation of digital content of e-journals. It suggests that various
Indian library consortia in the country should take lead and initiate action
for preserving e- journals for future.

Assessing the use of electronic information resources in DRDO institutes: An analytical study of DRDO e-journals consortium

Title: Assessing the use of electronic information resources in DRDO institutes: An analytical study of DRDO e-journals consortium

Authors: Moorthy, A.L.; Pant, Ankur

Abstract: Resource sharing
amongst libraries is a good old practice that is aimed at overcoming budgetary
constraints. The new millennium saw quite a few number of Library Consortia
established in the country, NKRC of CSIR and INDEST being the most successful
of them. After taking in to consideration the experiences of these and other
Library Consortia that are successfully serving their users, DRDO E-Journals
Consortium was established by DESIDOC in the year 2009 with 7 core publishers.
This paper briefly discusses the genesis of the DRDO Consortium, its services,
budgetary provisions, services offered, and efforts made by DESIDOC to enhance
the use of e-resources across the Organisation. An analytical study of the
usage of e-resources by the DRDO
scientific community was also made and the inferences were listed. Overall the
Consortium has been perceived as a major facilitator in providing required
information within least possible time.

Implications of SUSHI for analysis of usage statistics of e-resources: A case study of UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium

Title: Implications of SUSHI for analysis of usage statistics of e-resources: A case study of UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium

Authors: Pradhan, Dinesh R; Rai, Ashok Kumar; Arora, Jagdish

Abstract: The usage of e-resources is one of the most important parameters to
judge effectiveness of a consortium. Manual downloading and analysis of usage
statistics is a time-consuming process for a consortium like UGC-INFONET
Digital Library Consortium having more than 180 core members. COUNTER and SUSHI
standards have the potential to ease the work of a consortium administrator by
minimizing the time involved in manual downloading of usage statistics allowing
more time for analyzing the usage statistics for better decision making. The
article gives a brief of the implication of SUSHI for creating a usage
statistics portal at the INFLIBNET Centre for monitoring the usage of the
member universities.

Consortia based electronic information resource sharing in Department of Biotechnology Institutes in India

Title: Consortia based electronic information resource sharing in Department of Biotechnology Institutes in India

Authors: Lal, D. D.

Abstract: In the current era of IT (Information technology), the
information needs of the users have increased considerably that no library
individually can meet all the information requirements of the users. This has
required the need for efficient association and collaboration between libraries
and information centres for sharing their available resources and information
through networking. The consortia approach can be considered as a major step
towards library collaboration in sharing electronic resources.

 The
paper describes the DBT’s Electronic Resources Consortium (DeLCON).
