Effect of glass slope angle and water depth on productivity of double slope solar still

Title: Effect of glass slope angle and water depth on productivity of double slope solar still

Authors: Al-Garni, Ahmed Z; Kassem, Ayman H; Saeed, Farooq; Ahmed, Faizan

Abstract: This study presents design, fabrication and testing of
double slope solar still and also optimization of glass tilt angle (25, 30,

35 and 40°) and water depth (1, 2 and 3 cm) in Saudi
Arabian climatic conditions. Optimum tilt angle was found to be 35° for both

summer and winter seasons, and also productivity
increases with reduction in water depth. A number of existing energy and mass

balance equations were used to validate experimental
results. Numerical and experimental results were in good agreement with an

RMS error of 5-10%.

Effect of biodiesel and its blends with oxygenated additives on performance and emissions from a diesel engine

Title: Effect of biodiesel and its blends with oxygenated additives on performance and emissions from a diesel engine

Authors: Sivalakshmi, S; Balusamy, T

Abstract: This study presents effects of diethyl ether and
ethanol as additives to biodiesel (neem oil methyl ester) on the performance

and emission characteristics of a diesel engine at
different loads and constant engine speed. Compared with biodiesel, slightly

lower brake specific energy consumption for diethyl
ether and ethanol blended biodiesel fuels was observed. At higher engine

loads, CO and smoke emissions were found significantly
lower with all blends [BD-1 (5% diethyl ether, 95% biodiesel), BD-2

(10% diethyl ether, 90% biodiesel), BE-1 (5% ethanol,
95% biodiesel) and BE-2 (10% ethanol, 90% biodiesel)] compared to

biodiesel, but HC and NOx emissions were
found higher.

Biodiesels: an alternative renewable energy for next century

Title: Biodiesels: an alternative renewable energy for next century

Authors: Prabhakar, S; Annamalai, K

Abstract: Five non-edible vegetable oils (nerium, jatropha, pongamia,
mahua & neem) were selected as alternate fuels and comparison

analysis of performance and emission were done. A comparative
analysis was done for methyl esters of different oils in blends

with diesel of different proportions. It was observed that a
diesel engine runs successfully on a blend of 20% biodiesel and 80%

diesel fuel without affecting engine performance. Methyl ester
from Nerium oil, with properties close to diesel, showed better

performance and emission characteristics, followed by esters
of jatropha, Pongamia, Mahua and Neem oils. Hence Nerium blend

can be used in existing diesel engines without compromising
the engine performance.

Validation and quality assessment of Rasamanikya- A classical herbomineral preparation

Title: Validation and quality assessment of Rasamanikya- A classical herbomineral preparation

Authors: Gaidhani, Sudesh N; Singh, Arjun; Lagad, C E; Kumari, Suman; Lavekar, G S; Padhi, M M; Sharma, B S

Abstract: This study presents validation and quality assessment of
Rasamanikya, a light, micro fine powder, prepared by processing Patra Haratala, in which powder of Shodhita Haratala (Orpiment- As2S3), sandwiched between two Abhraka (white mica)
sheets, is heated for a while to obtain a specific pharmaceutical preparation. Analysis of Rasamanikya was performed through

qualitative and quantitative analyses, besides some
physico-chemical analysis and other tests such as IR spectroscopy, Raman

spectroscopy, EDAX and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to
ensure the quality of drug.
