Fuel, Insecticide/Pesticide and Oil/Fat

Title: Fuel, Insecticide/Pesticide and Oil/Fat

Abstract: Fuel-During the last decade ethanol
and biodiesel became the best-known
liquid biofuels. As for diesel fuel renewable
substitutes, fatty acid methyl esters (FAME)
biodiesel, appear to be the most popular
since its properties are similar to mineral
diesel and can be used in conventional
diesel engines without significant
modifications.

Insecticide/Pesticide- Aedes aegypti (Linn.) is an
important vector of dengue fever in India.
Although source reduction through proper
environmental sanitation and effective
exclusion of the mosquito from water
stored for domestic use can keep
populations of A. aegypti in check, the
use of insecticides is often necessary in
control operations.

Oil/Fat- Palm oil is
a rich source of vitamin E, carotenoids ,
tocotrienols and tocopherols which are natural antioxidants and act as scavengers of
oxygen free radicals. 12-O-Tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) is a known oxidant that promotes tumourigenesis in mouse skin through the elaboration of oxidative stress.

Beverage and Dye

Title: Beverage and Dye

Abstract: Beverage- In a review entitled 'Functional properties of whey components,
and essential amino acids: mechanisms underlying health benefits of
whey for active people' Ewan Ha and Michael B. Zemel of USA have
concluded that whey protein and amino acid supplements are positioned
as high quality protein and amino acid sources and as a potential means
to enhance lean body mass in conjunction with appropriate training.

Dye- Betalain is an excellent natural
dye obtained from the beet root juice. Beet
roots are processed for juice production
using water or acidulated water by
mechanical expression or diffusion
techniques.

Black Gram (Vigna mungo) - A hypolipidemic pulse

Title: Black Gram (Vigna mungo) - A hypolipidemic pulse

Authors: Indira, M.

Abstract: Black gram is a pulse commonly used in Indian cuisine. Systematic studieson the effect of lipid lowering action by common pulses revealed that black gram possesses significant hypolipidemic action. Detailed experimental studies in animals have shown that a polysaccharide and a protein fraction contribute to the hypolipidemic action. Glycosaminoglycan metabolism is altered by inclusion of these fractions in the diet. Neutral detergent fiber isolated from black gram possesses, significant hypolipidemic, hypoglycemic, and anticolon-cancer activity.
