Title: Condiment, Dye and Insecticide/Pesticide

Abstract: Condiment- Christophene or Chow-Chow, Sechium edule (Jacq.) Sw. (Family: Cucurbitaceae) is an underutilized vegetable crop found growing in some parts of North East Himalaya and Karnataka.

Insecticide/Pesticide- Plants may provide potential alternatives to currently used insect control agents because they constitute a rich source of bioactive chemicals.

Dietary Tips

Title: Dietary Tips

Abstract: Cardiovascular diseases account for an appreciable proportion of mortality and morbidity. Urbanization increases obesity and reduces physical activity, which results in overweight, elevated blood pressure (hypertension), and blood lipids and diabetes. The possibility of genetic susceptibility and other environmental influences like cigarette smoking, alcohol and stress also have a role to play, therefore, it is essential to maintain body weight.

Tissue Culture and Vegetable

Title: Tissue Culture and Vegetable

Abstract: Tissue Culture- Oak trees are important plants of Himalayas but due to many reasons their regeneration is deteriorating. Tissue culture technique is the only method to conserve and regenerate them. Scientists at G. B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development, Almora developed a regeneration protocol for Quercus floribunda Lindl.

Vegetable- Discolouration of the surface of peeled baby carrots occurs due to
reversible surface dehydration and
irreversible formation of lignin which
affect their storage quality and shelf-life.
Edible coatings have been applied to the
surface of fresh carrots to control white
surface discolouration by acting as
moisture barrier or surface moisturizer .

Title: Beverage

Abstract: Fruit and vegetable juices are beverages of high nutritional value sincethey are enriched with minerals, vitamins and other beneficial components for human health that are generally indicated as antioxidants. Unfortunately during the industrial transformation, a large part of the characteristics determining the quality of the fresh product undergoes a remarkable modification: the thermal damage and the chemical oxidation degrade more sensitive components reducing the quality of the final product.
