Multi-component mass transfer in a single particle during gaseous propylene polymerization

Title: Multi-component mass transfer in a single particle during gaseous propylene polymerization

Authors: Veera, U Parasu; McKenna, T; Weickert, G

Abstract: Mass transfer in the growing catalyst/polymer particle is modeled with dusty gas model (DGM), while the particle
growth is described with Polymeric Flow. A Thiele modulus defined in terms of diffusion combined with viscous flow, is
called viscous modulus, and used to analyze the dominating mechanism for mass transfer when there is an additional
transport of reactant (convection) along with diffusion in a single reacting particle. Addition of high or low molecular
weight inert/diluent gas affects mixture diffusivity and thus decreases or increases reaction rate respectively. Both
propylene-N₂ and propylene-C₃H₈ systems, which are commonly employed in industry, are studied. Effect of low molecular
weight inert is studied with propylene-He system. Porosity and pore size effect on reaction rate is also discussed.

Comparative investigation using fuzzy model and OptSim on WDM systems in presence of FWM and dispersion compensation

Title: Comparative investigation using fuzzy model and OptSim on WDM systems in presence of FWM and dispersion compensation

Authors: Singh, Amarpal; Sharma, Ajay K; Kamal, T S; Kamal; Singh, Paramjit

Abstract: This paper, investigates the impact of pre-, post-, symmetrical using Dispersion Compensating Fiber (DCF) and Fiber
Brag Grating (FBG) dispersion compensation methods on Four Wave Mixing (FWM) for 10 Gb/s non-return to zero (NRZ)
links by varying the state of polarization and core effective area of fiber through computer simulation. Performance
characteristics (FWM power, eye diagram and Q value at the output) are studied by simulating the optical communication
systems. A fuzzy controller based on fuzzy rule base using Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) has been
reported. It is indicated that FBG technique has been found superior to all other methods.

ANFIS for prediction of weld bead width in a submerged arc welding process

Title: ANFIS for prediction of weld bead width in a submerged arc welding process

Authors: Dhas, J Edwin Raja; Kumanan, S

Abstract: This paper proposes an intelligent technique, Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS), to predict the weld
bead width in the submerged arc welding (SAW) process for a given set of welding parameters. Experiments are designed
according to Taguchi’s principles and its results are used to develop a multiple regression model. Multiple sets of data from
multiple regression analysis are utilized to train the intelligent network. The trained network is used to predict the quality of
weld. The proposed ANFIS, developed using MATLAB functions, is flexible, accurate than existing models and it scopes
for a better online monitoring system.

Title: Contribution of superannuated scientists to National S&T: A case study of CSIR emeritus scientist scheme

Authors: Bhati, V S; Sharma, S K; Gupta, Archana; Luthra, Rajesh

Abstract: Performance analysis of the CSIR Emeritus Scientist scheme has been carried out on the following criteria: i) Quality
of output from the Emeritus Scientists; ii) Value attached to the scheme by scientific community; and iii) Acceptability of
the scheme across research disciplines. Analysis reveals that the scheme selects high quality research workers who not only
turn out work, acceptable in high-end journals, but also train students. The scheme attracts scientists equally from
universities and R&D institutions, and enjoys high prestige across the scientific disciplines.
