Abstract: Edible film coatings are used in

food packaging or as skin for
various types

of food products that require some
forms

of protection from environment,

microorganisms, chemicals or
adjacent

products. Such films can
mechanically

protect foods, prevent-loss of
volatile

flavours and aromas; retard the
rate of food

deterioration and spoilage by
controlling the

transfer of moisture, oxygen and
oxidizing

or reducing agents. Despite many
research

findings, problem of eggs cracking
is still

persisting.
Abstract: Stevia
rebaudiana (Bert.)
Bertoni leaves have been
used as powerful sweetening agents (as stevioside). Physiological and
pharmacological experiments have suggested that stevioside and its extracts
promote effects on some physiological systems, such as cardiovascular and renal.
In addition, stevioside and Stevia extracts are able to induce diuresis,
natriuresis and kaliuresis. The hypoglycaemic effect reported by some authors
has been observed exclusively with total extracts and not with purified
stevioside. In an experiment female rats and mice fed with a 5% aqueous extract
displayed reduced fertility, an effect apparently not reversible following drug
withdrawal.

Peanuts (Arachis hypogaea

Linn.) are grown on commercial scale

in India and other countries for its
kernel,

which is used for extracting oil and for

making other value added products. Large

quantities of peanut shells are available

in industries involved in oil and other

product manufacturing. Scientists at

Philadelphia University have evaluated

potential use of peanut shells as a source

of fibre, worth utilizing in nonwoven

erosion control materials. They also

developed a method of separating the

fibres from the hulls.

Title: Vegetable

Abstract: Ready-meals
are items of convenience and life styles, and are consumed predominantly by
one-person households, working couples, and increasingly by the elderly. Chilled
ready-meals are perceived to be of better quality than frozen meals. One of the
main problems with chilled ready-meals, however, is their relatively short
shelf-life, and frozen ready-meals are bought more often due to their longer
shelf-life. Freeze-chilling of food involves freezing and frozen storage
followed by thawing and chilled storage.
