Removal of Reactofix Red 3BFN from industrial effluent using adsorption techniques

Title: Removal of Reactofix Red 3BFN from industrial effluent using adsorption techniques

Authors: Jain, Rajeev; Varshney, Shaily; Sikarwar, Shalini

Abstract: Wheat husk has been used to adsorb dye using a series of batch experiments. Langmuir model provides best correlation of experimental data. Isotherms have also been used to obtain thermodynamic parameters such as free energy, enthalpy and entropy of adsorption. Various parameters (pH, adsorbent dose, initial dye concentration, temperature, particle size etc.) were optimized.

Title: Study the protein variations induced by Monocrotophos in Cyprinus carpio using PIC16F877 microcontroller

Authors: Neelamegam, P; Rajendran, A; Maruthanayagam, C; Mohanraja, M

Abstract: A real time microcontroller based instrumentation system has been developed to measure protein in different tissues of Monocrotophos (organo phosphorous insecticides) treated Cyprinus carpio (fish). During exposure period, tissues of muscle, liver and intestine showed a significant amount of decrease in the biochemical constituent due to metabolic stress. The protein content slowly decreased in all tissues, due to enhanced proteolytic activity, perhaps due to decreased protein synthesis and complete utilization of its products for metabolic purposes. During recovery period, protein content showed an elevation in all tissues. Protein level was gradually regained after termination of sublethal exposure. Measurement details of protein using microcontroller are presented.

Title: Materials handling technology and significance of expert systems to select appropriate handling equipments in engineering industries: A review

Authors: Vijayaram, Thoguluva Raghavan

Abstract: This review discusses various handling equipments and the role of material handling systems in engineering industries. Flow of material through ecosystem of an industrial society is the physical manifestation of its substance, productivity and wealth. A brief explanation on the material handling interests and activities are also highlighted. Simulation models are precisely given to generate the expert system software for handling systems.

Effect of moisture level on biodegradation of forest waste under solid state fermentation

Title: Effect of moisture level on biodegradation of forest waste under solid state fermentation

Abstract: Biodegradation of forest waste by hydrolytic enzymes (cellulase and xylanase) secreted by the coculture of Bacillus coagulans and B. licheniformis by changing the moisture level of substrate in solid-state fermentation (SSF) was studied. At optimum moisture level, there was a considerable increase in extracellular enzyme production, thus, consequently increasing the degradation of forest waste. An increase upto 1024% in biodegradation index of dilute sulphuric acid pretreated Cedrus deodara wood was noticed at substrate: moisture ratio of 1:2.
