Fuel, Insecticide/Molluscicide and Nutraceutical

Title: Fuel, Insecticide/Molluscicide and Nutraceutical

Abstract: Fuel-The industrial-scale production of biodiesel fuel from waste edible oils is performed by a chemical process using
alkaline catalysts. Waste oils, however, contain small amounts of water and free fatty acids (FFA) in addition to oxidized
compounds, such as aldehydes, epoxides, and polymers.

Insecticide/Molluscicide-Schistosomiasis is an endemic parasitic disease, prevalent
in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world, and is second only to malaria.

Nutraceutical- Pea is an important grain legume,
as both human food and animal feed. A
valuable part of the pea is the protein
fraction, which can be extracted and
further purified into a protein isolate.

Title: Cosmetics, Food and Fruit

Abstract: Cosmetics- Triterpene, steroid saponins and sapogenins of plant origin are claimed to be effective for the treatment/prevention of panniculopatia oedemato-fibro sclerotica, but the mechanisms by which these compounds are active have never been elucidated.

Food- Lipid peroxidation causes deterioration of foods and makes them unacceptable to consumers.

Pulses

Title: Pulses

Abstract: Legumes are an important source of protein in the diets. The presence of tannins, saponins, phytic acid and other antinutritional substances hinder their utilization in the human body. Tannins affect the availabilityof amino acids, utilization of protein and inhibit the activities of digestive enzymes. Soaking of legumes before cooking is a common practice to soften texture and hasten the cooking process. Soaking in salt solution results in a considerable reduction in cooking time and improvement in protein quality.
