Recent developments in solid oxide fuel cell
technology – a review
|
This review
presents development of low temperature solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), which
with high efficiency and high environmental performance have shown excellent
potential as a future source of energy for vehicles and homes. Gd2O3
and Sm2O3 doped ceria based nanomaterials were
developed world wide, as alternate electrolyte materials for SOFCs working at
reduced temperature (700°C) since, state-of- art YSZ based electrolytes
undergo interfacial reactions with adjoining cell components at operating
temperature of SOFC after prolonged operation. Novel ceramic composite
materials are reported as alternate electrode components of reduced
temperature SOFC. Iron based alloys are developed as current collectors for
low temperature SOFC applications. |

Plasma pyrolysis and gasification of
plastics waste – a review |
Plasma pyrolysis integrates thermo-chemical properties of plasma using pyrolysis process for safe disposal of solid wastes. It is an environment friendly technology to generate valuable byproducts by converting municipal solid waste, biomedical waste and hazardous wastes at 800-1000°C. Plasma Pyrolysis of plastic wastes generates pyrolysis gas, which can be utilized for energy recovery via different applications. |

An inventory model with temporary price
discount when lead time links to order quantity |
This paper presents effects of a temporary
price discount offered by supplier on a retailer’s replenishment policy, when
lead time is linked to order quantity. A decision process for retailers is
developed in deciding whether to adopt a regular or special order policy
during a temporary sales period. Optimal special order quantity is determined
by maximizing total cost saving between special and regular orders, and
illustrated by several numerical examples along with sensitivity analysis of
optimal solution.

Exception detection in business process
management systems |
This study presents exception detection in process management system, which uses active semantic model (ASM), a hybrid system comprising semantic networks, expert systems, object oriented programming and fuzzy logic. ASM is employed to capture semantic features of all kinds of workflow situations, as well as to detect and interpret exceptions.

Study of hygrothermal ageing on properties
of polyester / glass composites |
This study presents hygrothermal degradation of unidirectional glass fiber reinforced polyester composites (GFRPC). Water absorption of GFRPC immersed in distilled water increased with time and temperature except for samples immersed in river water at 60°C. Moisture absorption (%) in GFRPC increased with increase in fiber content. Degradation of properties [loss tangent (tan δ), glass transition temperature (Tg) and storage modulus (E')] was determined after moisture saturation and drying of specimens using dynamic mechanical analyser (DMA). E' and Tg decreased after moisture absorption for all specimens. Tg showed an almost complete recovery after drying in most cases, whereas E' reduced permanently after hygrothermal conditioning. |

Synthesis and characterization of methyl
nitramino -2, 4, 6-trinitobenzenes using bismuth nitrate pentahydrate as an
eco friendly nitrating agent |
This study presents synthesis of 2,4,6-trinitrophenylmethyl- nitramine (3a) 2,4,6-trinitro-1,3-di(methylnitramino) benzene (3b) and 2,4,6-trinitro-1,3,5-tris(methylnitramino) benzene (3c) by nitration of 2,4,6-trinitro-N-methylaniline (2a), 2,4,6-trinitro-1,3-di(methylamino) benzene (2b) and 2,4,6-trinitro-1,3,5-tris(methylamino) benzene (2c) using bismuth nitrate pentahydrate in tetrahydrofuran adsorbed on silica gel and fly ash as solid supports under microwave irradiation. An eco-friendly nitration approach used in synthesis of target compounds (3a-3c) is of interest for the production of high energy materials. |

Gibberellic acid production by Fusarium fujikuroi SG2 |
Present study isolates efficient strains of gibberellins producing
fungal strains from ‘bakanae’ diseased root system of rice plants for their
GA3 production potentials in Czapek-Dox liquid medium/improved
medium. One of the isolates SG2 (GA3, 1175 mg/l) produced higher
GA3 than standards strains of G.
fujikuroi, which was identified as Fusarium
fujikuroi SG2 (MTCC4649). While studying GA3 production
pattern by this strain, gibberellin synthesis initiated on 3rd day
and reached maximum by 9th day of fermentation.

Papermaking of mineral fiber composites |
Mineral and hardwood fiber composites were
assessed by various factors (folding degree, tensile strength, elongation,
tearing strength and tear factor). Performance of wollastonite or sepiolite
composites is found higher than that of the same percentage fillers (calcium
carbonate, talc) due to interwoven structure between mineral fibers and
hardwood fibers. Composites of wollastonite and sepiolite (1: 1) can
significantly improve performance of composite fibers due to combined effect
of mineral fibers.

Design optimization of dosa making workstation
for smooth ergonomic interface |
This study presents design
optimization of Dosa making workstation (DMW) used in preparation of South
Indian food, dosa. Anthropometry of South Indian user population is
considered in ergonomic interface analysis. Design of Experiments (DOE) was
used for optimization of DMW. Four control parameters (shoulder height, arm
length of worker, table width and table height of DMW) were considered in
design optimization. Proposed parameters (height, 1150 mm; width, 750 mm)
reduced risk of musculoskeletal disorder for users and enhanced quality of
work at DMW.

Thermodynamic analysis of a regenerative
gas turbine cogeneration plant |
Design methodology has been developed for parametric study and
thermodynamic performance evaluation of a gas turbine cogeneration system
(GTCS). Parametric study showed that compression ratio (rp), inlet
air temperature, turbine inlet temperature, steam pressure and pinch point
temperature played a very vital role on overall performance of GTCS. Exergy analysis
revealed that most sensitive components in GTCS were combustion
chamber and regenerator.
